Just got a standard fundraising email from UVA… here is the sort of disturbing quote (emphasis added):

“Students from the Class of 2007 and their families gathered in Charlottesville this past weekend for the University’s most joyful occasion, when we award degrees and celebrate the achievements of our graduating students. Boyd Tinsley, violinist for the Dave Matthews Band, spoke at Valedictory Exercises on Saturday, and author John Grisham gave the commencement address at Final Exercises on Sunday. “

At least Boyd graduated from UVA. But still, I’m not sure how learning one (admittedly high-energy) fiddle riff and doing enough lat pulls to get a Jansport endorsement deal qualifies somebody to be a graduation speaker…
